ARCHIVED - Heavy police presence this weekend to ensure border restrictions are respected
The Government Delegate says 1500 police will be positioned on roads around the region
The Government Delegate to the Region of Murcia (the official representative of the Spanish government in Murcia who controls the Guardia Civíl and national police, amongst other responsibilities) today announced the deployment of nearly 1,500 Civil Guard and National Police personnel this weekend to collaborate with the perimeter closure of the Region of Murcia and the 45 municipalities decreed by the Regional Government.
José Vélez, who has chaired the constitution meeting of CECOR, the body that will supervise and coordinate the actions of the State Security Forces and Bodies and their collaboration with local and regional administrations due to the current State of Alarm, has called for collective responsibility to try to stop the infections.
After the meeting, which was held in person and online, and in which representatives of the State Security Forces and Bodies, responsible for the Departments of Health and Transparency, Participation and Public Administration, of the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia and the respective Local Police Corps of the municipalities of the Region of Murcia with more than 50,000 inhabitants, the Government delegate has highlighted the involvement and coordination of all the bodies represented in the CECOR and has shown his conviction that loyalty and coordination will be similar to that of the previous State of Alarm and Confinement.
During this period, the Regional President will act as the competent authority delegated by the Government of Spain and may request the collaboration of the State Security Forces and Bodies, which remain under the orders of the Government delegate.
This can include the support of the Armed Forces should it be deemed necessary for additional resources to be sent to the region for any reason.
Each municipal council controls its own Policia Local and several municipalities have announced that Policia Local police patrols will be intensified this weekend to ensure there is no overcrowding in cemeteries, that traffic flows smoothly and there are no second home owners moving to holiday properties for the weekend.
